Top 8 Articles from 2015

  1. Drs. Nusbaum and Rose Published in The Clinics. Providing expert insight on emerging technologies and procedures, “The Clinics” is known throughout the medical community as an expert reference and quarterly publication. In January 2014, Drs. Nusbaum and Rose were featured in the publication, providing insight on the latest hair loss treatments, including low level laser therapy (LLLT), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and robotic follicular unit extraction (FUE).
  2. Low Level Laser Therapy Proves Successful in Reversing Hair Loss. LLLT devices have grown in popularity in recent years, with men and women from around the world trying these new at-home “laser hair restoration” products. Until 2014, however, very little was known about products’ efficacy. That changed earlier this year, when this study showed a popular LLLT device capable of generating new hair growth of about 20 hairs/square centimeter of scalp.
  3. Hair Transplants Increase 85% Worldwide. This past year marked an excited milestone for hair transplant surgery as well. In a report published by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), stats show that the number of hair transplant procedures performed worldwide grew by 85% from 2004 to 2014.
  4. Thinking About Robotic FUE? Robotic follicular unit extraction (FUE) transplants have also gained a lot of positive media attention this year, and it’s not hard to see why. This new approach to hair transplant is more consistent, accurate, minimally invasive, and virtually scar-free. This past year, our Institute hit a milestone when we reached an extraction rate of more than 850 grafts/hour with the new ARTAS System by Restoration Robotics, an achievement that demonstrates both the popularity of robotic FUE and our proficiency with the new technology.
  5. Dr. Rose Elected Treasurer of Cosmetic Surgery Foundation. One of the best things about our surgeons and staff is their unparalleled commitment to study, research, and refine hair loss technologies and procedures. Lead surgeon Dr. Paul Rose is involved in many organizations outside of the Hair Transplant Institute, including the Cosmetic Surgery Foundation. This past year, we congratulated Dr. Rose on his election to the board as Treasurer for CSF!
  6. Tips for Healthier Hair. Of course, it wouldn’t be a “best of” list without at least one article on how to improve hair health. This year, our most popular article on healthier hair also happens to be one of the simplest. Visit this article for 3 easy tips on keeping hair strong and healthy through 2015.
  7. The Future of ARTAS Hair Restoration. ARTAS is the leading robotic FUE technology, providing surgeons with an advanced method for conducting a hair transplant procedure with greater accuracy and precision. Today, the technology helps surgeons identify and extract donor hair that show the best signs of surviving and thriving afterward. In the near future, the technology may soon be able to assist with preparing the “recipient area” where donor follicles are placed. Read more about the future of ARTAS technology in this exclusive article.
  8. Discovery of New Stem Cells May Hold Future Hair Loss Cure. Stem cells have long been researched as a potential cure for hair loss. In early December, a research team from the University of Calgary announced that cells have been identified that might potentially take researchers one step closer to that dream. Visit this article to learn more about Dr. Jeff Biernaskie, and the discovery that he hopes will some day help hair restoration professionals create an “on/off” switch for hair follicles.

Meet Dr. Rose

[Video Transcript] It was actually during my residency in dermatology that I first became aware of some of the things that could be done with hair replacement, and hair diagnosis. And, upon graduating that residency program in 1988, I became very much involved in cosmetic procedures, including hair restoration. As it turns out, I’ve been doing hair restoration procedures since approximately 1988, so well over 20 years experience.

A PHYSICIAN. AN ARTIST. PERFECT BALANCE.

I think that one of the most interesting aspects of this kind of cosmetic surgery is that it should really be undetectable. It’s not like doing a Rhinoplasty, where someone sees an abrupt change; it’s not like doing a breast augmentation, where there’s clearly an obvious change. In this case, you’re trying to be as natural as possible. And, a component of it that I think people sometimes will miss, is that it is far beyond the technical aspect for hair restoration. One also should endeavor to have an artistic approach to doing this, and be aware of what makes for the way that an artist would look at the face, and try to take those components, those parameters, and bring them in to the surgery that we do. And I think we are very successful at doing that. In the end, it provides an appearance that is undetectable.
