At the Hair Transplant Institute of Miami, lead surgeons Drs. Rose and Nusbaum have developed a comprehensive method of performing stem cell therapy for hair loss. Stem cell hair growth is a new, safe, and effective method of hair restoration. Many patients are excited to learn stem cell therapy can be utilized in conjunction with hair transplant surgery, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, topical treatments (like Rogaine®), and laser hair therapy to maximize results. This minimally invasive hair restoration technique produces exceptional outcomes, as shown in the before and after photos below.
How Does Stem Cell Hair Growth Work?
Scientists first conceptualized the idea of a “stem cell” as early as 1868. In 1953, stem cells were officially defined as we know them today: Unique cells that have the ability to grow into several other types of cells. In this way, stem cells are the building blocks of the body, providing a blueprint from which other cells are made.
Most recently, it has been discovered that fatty tissue contains rich reservoirs of stem cells that can be used to treat hair loss. We have developed the following procedure to utilize a patient’s own stem cells for hair restoration:
The procedure is done as an outpatient with local anesthesia and a mild oral sedative. A small liposuction procedure is performed on the belly, flanks or “love handles” to obtain the patient’s own fat. A special process is used to isolate and concentrate the stem cells from the fat and these are then injected into the scalp.
The results of stem cell hair growth are very positive, as shown by the images below. While we do not know for how long the hair will continue to grow, we believe that occasional re-treatment will keep the process going.
Stem Cell Therapy for Hair Loss: Frequently Asked Questions
We invite you to review the following frequently asked questions (FAQs) about stem cell hair therapy. For more information, please contact us online or call our clinic directly at 877-443-9070.
How do you find stem cells?
To treat hair loss, stem cells are removed from the belly, flanks or “love handles.”
How long does the procedure take?
You will be in our clinic for about 3-4 hours. The procedure consists of 3 phases: Extraction, separation and scalp infiltration. Extraction takes about 60 minutes. Stem cells are then separated by our clinical team, during which patients may relax comfortably in our upscale patient rooms. The scalp infiltration takes 30 minutes.
Is it safe to use stem cell therapy with other hair loss treatments?
Yes. Stem cell hair treatment may be used in conjunction with hair transplant surgery as well as oral medications (Propecia®), topical hair loss foams (Rogaine®), platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injections, and low level laser therapy (LLLT). To determine the best course of treatment, contact our institute for a hair loss evaluation with Drs. Nusbaum and Rose.
Is there any downtime after the procedure?
Although the procedure is minimally invasive, patients must arrange for a friend or family member to pick them up afterward. Local anesthesia and a mild oral sedative are used, and driving on these medications is prohibited. Many patients return to a normal routine the following day.
How much does stem cell hair transplant cost?
Costs vary according to individual patient needs. For more information, contact our Institute for details.
How long do the results last?
Clinical research is still being conducted on stem cell therapy for hair loss. While we do not know for how long the hair will continue to grow, we believe that occasional re-treatment will keep the process going.
