Non-Surgical Options for Hair Loss Treatment

PRP Therapy for Hair LossGiven our name – the Hair Transplant Institute of Miami – it is unsurprising that much of what we do to address hair loss problems involves hair transplant surgery. Our surgeons are world-renowned leaders in hair transplant surgery, have been instrumental in the development of the most effective and widely used techniques, and have used their skills, experience, and artistry to perform thousands of successful procedures. But our name notwithstanding, we offer plenty of robust non-surgical hair restoration options for individuals who may be better served by such alternative treatments.

All of the non-surgical treatments we offer are safe, tested, and effective. Which treatment is right for you will depend on your specific condition and goals, but our hair restoration experts have the knowledge and insights to select the treatment option best suited to your needs.

Some of the most popular non-surgical hair loss treatments we offer at the Hair Transplant Institute of Miami are:

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Low-level laser therapy, also called LLLT, is a non-invasive treatment involving the use of specialized combs and caps such as the Capillus272 laser cap, a device cleared by the FDA for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.

LLLT nourishes hair follicles by sending pulses of energy into inactive follicles. These pulses “spark” the follicles back into a phase of regrowth by promoting proper circulation and cellular respiration.

The Capillus 272 caps we offer have 272 professional-strength lasers to make it the most powerful at-home device for thinning hair. You can wear it throughout the day, going on with your life while your cap goes about the business of strengthening your hair follicles.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

One of the most exciting and promising new treatments for hair loss involves the use of the body’s own natural growth and healing factors to stimulate hair regrowth. PRP therapy takes the body’s natural processes and turbocharges them. A blood sample is taken from the patient and then placed in a centrifuge where the platelets are separated from other elements of the blood. The PRP is then injected into the treatment area, stimulating the work that the body is already doing.

PRP appears to nurture hair follicles with critical growth factors that take them from a dormant state (in which hair is no longer growing) to an active state (in which a normal hair growth cycle occurs). A 2017 report reviewed numerous studies involving PRP and hair loss and concluded that “the available evidence suggests a promising use for PRP as an alternative treatment for androgenic alopecia.” At the Hair Transplant Institute of Miami, we have seen excellent results when using PRP with other hair restoration procedures.

Stem Cells

Another way we can use the body’s own processes to address hair loss is by re-introducing a patient’s own stem cells to their hair follicles, creating a nourishing environment to foster regrowth and minimize hair loss.

Using a liposuction tool, we take fat cells from the belly, flanks or love handles and extract the stem cells that can foster hair growth. We then inject this concentrated stem cell sample onto the scalp. It is a quick and minimally invasive procedure.

Hair Restoration Drugs

Hair loss medications such as Rogaine® (Minoxidil) and Propecia are extremely popular and effective ways to address hair loss without surgery. Both medications, for the right patients, can stop or slow down hair loss and can stimulate the growth of new hair in some patients.
